When it comes to platform game creators, it’s impossible to think of them without comparing them to the standards of the Super Mario Maker series. These games offer a range of content whose possibilities are as endless as your imagination. But if these games cost as much as they do, some might want a much cheaper alternative? There’s the Platago! The Super Platform Game Maker is included. It represents only a third of the price of Super Mario Maker 2 and aims to give you a platform gaming experience on a much smaller budget. Unfortunately, he could not prevent himself from falling into the bottomless pit.
As with all great platform games, the heart of the game revolves around its simplicity. You can simply drag tiles onto the stage to create platforms and backgrounds. There are many art styles to choose from, with each part completely changing from tile platforms to enemies. The goal of each level is to reach the exit, which can be unlocked by collecting as many gems as indicated in the level. There are also online features, as you can download your levels for others to play. The ability to combine all your levels into one game is a really great feature. Just like in Super Mario World, you can select multiple levels and place them on the map for other players to play against online.
While simplicity is welcome in a platformer, this game goes too far and thus becomes a limitation to creative design. Unlike Super Mario Maker, where you can create levels in different ways, this game only has one way to create a scene, which is a square room. You can’t go through long levels and you can’t have multiple sections in a level to distort – all you have is a box in a room. The biggest problem is that it affects your creativity. The game forces you to create levels and complete them in a certain style. This greatly affects variety and takes away one of the biggest surprises in Super Mario Maker – surprise. This title featured thousands of unique courses with many different paths to the pylons and numerous innovative ideas that made many players laugh. There is only one way to beat the level: collect enough gems. Creativity is practically thrown out the window.
Another problem with PlataGo is that it simply lacks passion. It gives you the absolute basics to create a small level, and nothing more. You cannot combine objects or enemies to create unique conditions. There are no elements with which you can interact with the level, like B. Lava rises or falls. Even the function of changing the artistic style seems to be creatively downplayed, as it only changes the visual aspect of the game, but not the art itself. Unlike Super Mario Maker, which gives you the ability to play desert or forest art with the visuals from the four Mario games, this game just gives you the visual aesthetic of these consoles and nothing new visually. Leprechauns are pretty much the same no matter what. You can swap other visual styles, like science fiction or a mega art style, but you can see these other styles in the NES or SNES look. All of these little problems combined really contribute to making this game a hindrance to your creativity.
The biggest problem in this game definitely has a price. This game costs $20, a third of the cost of Super Mario Maker games. I can safely say that this game doesn’t have a third of the content and excitement of these games. Maybe if the price dropped drastically, you could justify the lack of content in this game. Right now, there are better platform games on the Switch that cost much less than that. Not to mention that many standard games are even starting to include these developers. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate has been updated with a fairly robust stage picker, and the remake of Link’s Awakening recently confirmed that it will have its own dungeon picker. In all these games, you have to find something special to make your game developer stand out from the rest. You can’t even say it’s a good platform game for a small budget, because there are much better games on the system for less than $20. Don’t be embarrassed.

Platago! The Super Platform slot machine offers the bare minimum. The only decent feature of this game is one of the online features, but everything else is completely uncreative. Your imagination is severely limited by poor game design, and it lacks the robust features found in other platform game manufacturers. Without mentioning the price of this title, it is in no way justified.
